Let's be honest — the word "chamber" does a lot of work in people's imaginations. They picture something metallic and intimidating, maybe a little claustrophobic, maybe with a lot of beeping. The reality is so much calmer than that, and almost everyone laughs about it afterward.

So let's walk through it. Start to finish. No surprises.

Step 1: Before You Arrive

Wear comfortable clothes. That's it. Sweatpants, a soft shirt, socks — whatever you'd wear to lounge on the couch. Skip anything synthetic that generates static, and leave the hairspray for another day. You can bring your phone, a book, headphones, or just yourself.

Eat something light beforehand. You don't want to go in on an empty stomach, but you also don't want to be digesting a full Thanksgiving dinner. A snack an hour before is ideal.

New client? We recommend calling ahead at 814-414-7210 so we can have your session set up and your questions answered before you arrive. Walk-ins are welcome too.

Step 2: The First Five Minutes

When you arrive, we'll walk you through everything in plain English — no medical jargon, no forms that take an hour. We'll ask about your goals, any relevant health stuff, and what you're hoping to get out of a session. If there's a reason HBOT isn't right for you today, we'll tell you.

Then we'll show you the chamber. It's softer than people expect. Think of it as a padded, zippered pod with clear viewing windows, big enough to lie down comfortably with pillows, blankets, and enough room to shift around.

Step 3: Getting In & Pressurizing

You climb in, get comfortable, and we seal the chamber. Over the next few minutes, the pressure inside slowly increases. This is the only part of the session that feels like anything is happening — and what you feel is a gentle fullness in your ears, exactly like the pressure shift you get landing in a plane or diving into a pool.

To clear your ears, just swallow or do a little jaw-wiggle. We'll have shown you how. Some people chew gum. Some people yawn. Within about five minutes, you're at pressure, and the feeling disappears.

Step 4: The 60 Minutes Inside

And then — nothing. Or rather, everything that's already going on inside you starts doing its job a little better.

You won't feel the extra oxygen saturating your blood. You won't feel your inflammation dropping. You won't feel your tissues repairing themselves. But all of that is happening. What you'll feel, on the outside, is quiet.

Most clients end up doing one of four things:

  • Reading. Bring a book. The pressure doesn't affect paper.
  • Listening. Music, podcasts, audiobooks — whatever you'd listen to on a long drive.
  • Napping. A genuinely high percentage of our clients fall asleep. The quiet, the gentle white noise, and the oxygen load are deeply relaxing.
  • Nothing. Some people just close their eyes and breathe. For some, it's the one hour of the week where nothing is being asked of them.
Most common reaction: Clients tell us the hour feels much shorter than they expected. Time moves differently in the chamber — in the best way.

Step 5: Coming Back Up

At the end of the session, the pressure gently releases over another few minutes. You'll feel the ear thing again in reverse — usually even milder. And then you're out.

Step 6: How You'll Feel Right After

This is the part people don't expect. Most first-timers describe the feeling afterward in some version of the same three words: light, clear, awake.

You might notice that the colors look a little sharper. That your shoulders feel less tight. That the headache you came in with is suddenly just... gone. Some people feel it immediately. Others notice it hours later, or when they wake up the next morning sleeping better than they have in weeks.

That said — HBOT isn't magic. It doesn't work the same for everyone on day one. The benefits are cumulative. The people who see the biggest changes are usually the ones who come back a few times and let the effects stack up.

The Only Question Left

If you've been thinking about trying a session and something has been holding you back — usually it's the unknown — hopefully this cleared some of it up. It's quiet. It's comfortable. It's safe. And the worst thing that happens is you get a free hour of peace.

Give us a call. We'll walk you through the rest.
